Declan Welsh & The Decadent West veröffentlichen heute ihr neues Album „2“

Die Indie Band aus Glasgow erinnert auf ihrem Zweitwerk an die hymnischen Pop-Momente der Kaiser Chiefs und die hypnotischen Gitarrenspuren der Arctic Monkeys.

Declan Welsh & The Decadent West haben dieses Jahr bereits einige Singles rausgebracht, wie „I Don’t Know Why“ und „King Of My Head“. Diesen Sommer sind sie auf der großen Bühne des TRNSMT-Festivals u.a. neben Pulp aufgetreten und haben mit Declan Welsh’s leidenschaftlicher Pro-Palästina-Rede für Aufsehen gesorgt. Das zeigt, dass sie live ordentlich was draufhaben, nachdem sie bereits das Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow headlinen durften und als Support für Twin Atlantic auf Tour waren.

„2“ wurde in den letzten 12 Monaten zwischen Los Angeles und Glasgow aufgenommen und markiert einen deutlichen Stilwechsel weg von ihrem bisherigen Alternative Rock. Die Band hat jetzt große Ambitionen und will musikalisch neue Wege gehen.

Frontmann Declan Welsh sagt: “I guess the album is a product of its environment, written over a period of time in which the outside world seemed as far away as it ever has done. It’s an introspective album in some parts, and in others it’s an album about watching people from a distance. Musically there’s a lot more space than anything we’ve done before, a lot of that has to do with it being created in a bedroom first off. That’s the synthetic part, but we then recorded most of everything live over it, with real instruments. So there’s this dual personality I think, where the synthetic and the analogue are kinda fighting it out. The result of that is this kinda detached attitude that gives way to huge moments of emotion. Lyrically, this is reflected back, with the album discussing issues concerning rumination, isolation and anxiety before moments of humour, hope and love break through to lift the songs and provide light to the shade.

Das Album „2“ von Declan Welsh & The Decadent West wurde von Gianluca Buccaletti produziert, der für den Grammy nominiert und mit dem Mercury Award ausgezeichnet ist (Arlo Parks, Big Piig, Easy Life), und von Heba Kadry (Beach House, Bjork, Big Thief, Slowdive) gemastert.
